Job Description

Perform electrical-mechanical fabrication and assembly as a member of the F/A-18 & EA-18G Advanced Weapons Lab's Facilities Branch.

Essential Job Functions:

Build custom electrical cable harnesses and full avionic system chassis with strong attention to detail.

Interpret complex electrical schematics / drawing packages to develop fabrication process and delivery estimates of completed products.

Fabricate custom electronic assemblies consisting of commercial and military-style hardware by properly using industry tools and soldering equipment.

Assemble custom avionic chassis and populate commercial cabinets with internal wiring harnesses, PCBs, and relay panels.

Assist Facilities Engineers with lab modification efforts, to include installing unique wire bundles, in-place wiring changes, and re-configuring equipment racks.

Assist with Quality Assurance checks and troubleshooting on products according to schematics, using multi-meter and oscilloscope.

Perform with technical vision and creativity in fabrication efforts to satisfy customer's quality standards.

Perform as a member of a team to deliver high quality products, with soldering finishing in accordance with the J-STD-001 Space Addendum.

Required skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 years of applicable experience are required. Will also consider a candidate with AS/TS plus 2 years of relevant experience.

Must be able to be granted a security clearance and maintain one for the duration of employment.

Must be eligible to obtain a NAWCWD Base Visitor pass to appear on-site to demonstrate electrical fabrication skills for customer's assessment. 

Ability to earn and/or maintain IPC Standard Certifications: J-STD-001 soldering with Space Addendum, WHMA-610/620 wire harness manufacturing, and WHMA-7711/21 PCB assembly.

Surface mount soldering experience and IPC Standard certified within last 2 years.

Knowledge of military-style electrical connector tooling, soldering, and fabrication procedures.

Ability to properly use industry tools with correct posture for stripping wire shielding, crimping and soldering contacts and connections.

Ability to properly operate in-shop equipment (drill press, band saw, label makers).

Ability to read electrical schematics and fabrication drawings.

Ability to stand and be mobile for long durations of time, including kneeling and independently lifting up to 50-lbs.

Proficiency in common Microsoft Office applications.

Desired Skills:

Mircro-miniature PCB building experience.

US Military Electrical Maintenance Technician experience.

F/A-18 & EA-18G Avionic Systems familiarity.
