Job Description

Reporting to and collaborating with the Mission Planning Department Manager, the Air Mobility Planning Branch Manager will effectively manage assigned individual contributors and grow their Branch.

Essential Job Functions:

Apply well-defined management processes and concepts in oversight of an organization consisting of individual contributors who primarily develop software in support of US Navy and US Air Force Mission Planning programs.

Ensure the organization supports the project execution processes necessary to plan, staff, execute, and close out projects to ensure a high-level of customer satisfaction.

Develop a depth of understanding of the US Navy and US Air Force Mission Planning.

Collaborate with the Department Manager and fellow Branch Managers to achieve assigned annual business growth consistent with the goals of the DCS Strategic Plan.

Participate in capturing new work for the Division; lead proposal development as Volume or Proposal Manager.

Recognize market opportunities, understand competitive positioning, plan for technology evolution, and control business costs.

Identify, assess, and track competitors; develop and analyze courses of action to gain competitive advantage by emphasizing our strengths against competitor weaknesses.

Promote Department and Branch capabilities and advantages with key civilian and military leaders.

Recruit and retain staff of individual contributors to support current and anticipated projects, and provide these employees job security, fair compensation, and opportunities for professional development.

Perform mentoring, supervision, and evaluation of subordinates.

Be an advocate and supporter of the DCS Quality Management System (QMS), responsible for QMS compliance with emphasis on QMS process improvement.

The successful candidate will work 90% or more on external customer projects.  Candidates not currently supporting Mission Planning Department contracts must either qualify for existing contract billets or have other sources of direct coverage.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Must have a BS + 6 years’ experience.

Must be able to obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance within 6-9 months of hire.

Business development aptitude and customer-service talents.

Team leadership, supervisory or technical leadership experience.

Promotes DCS with a positive, confidence-inspiring image.

Ability to manage a budget, meet established schedules, and complete assigned reviews and reports.

Proven, excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to a) provide positive and negative feedback, b) make a persuasive argument, c) describe in writing team processes and ideas.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, with local and distributed team members.

Desired Skills:

Ability to participate in Agile focused software development methods and ceremonies.

Familiarity and experience with the Capability Maturity Model / Integration (CMMI).
