Human Factors Engineer

DCS Corp Sterling Heights, MI (Hybrid) Full-Time

We are currently hiring a Human Factors Engineer to join our Sterling Heights, MI team to support development of advanced ground vehicle technologies for manned and unmanned platforms for the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC).  As a Human Factors Engineer with DCS, you develop intuitive Human Machine Interface solutions for a wide array of GVSC ground vehicle programs.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead the design of Graphic User Interface (GUI) for complex manned and unmanned ground vehicle systems. Responsibilities will include design, documentation, and assessment of GUI to meet program goals and system requirements while applying human factors principals, including MIL-STD-1472 and other relevant guidance, to develop a highly intuitive and usable soldier focused interface.

Participate in design and evaluation of Human Machine Interface (HMI) for vehicle crew stations and other hardware operated by soldiers such as displays, hand and foot controls, control panels, and seating for adherence to human factors principals.

Lead and conduct human subjects research on the design of U.S. Army manned and unmanned ground vehicle systems. Responsibilities will include definition of research objectives to meet program goals, authoring test plans and test reports, interacting with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Use Committee (HUC) to obtain test protocol approval, development of participant training materials, and execution of participant training and testing in accordance with Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) regulations and guidelines.  

Provide subject matter expertise in Human Factors Engineering in the development of system requirements, user story acceptance criteria, tasks analyses, cognitive walkthroughs, workload analyses, usability and heuristic evaluations, storyboards, use cases, and crew activity diagrams.

Position will require occasional travel to support test and integration events.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Must be able to obtain Secret clearance.

Bachelor's Degree in Arts, Psychology and/or Human Factors (Human Factors Engineering, Human Factors Psychology, Applied Experimental Psychology, Industrial Engineering with Human Factors Concentration) and 8 years’ experience.

Graphic User Interface (GUI) design and evaluation.

Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and evaluation.

Human subjects research experience.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with frequent customer interaction.

Independent thinker, proven problem solver, and demonstrated leadership.

Effective communication skills, both written and oral.

Desired Skills:

Familiarity/experience developing or working with military systems.

Familiarity/experience with ergonomic evaluations.

Familiarity/experience with Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and Human Use Committee (HUC) procedures.

Familiarity/experience with statistical analysis.
