Aeronautical Data Chain Systems Engineer

DCS Corp Bedford, MA (Onsite) Full-Time

DCS Corp has an exciting opportunity for a Aeronautical Data Chain Systems Engineer to support the The Aerospace Management Systems Division Programs (AFLCMC/HBA) at Hanscom AFB in Bedford MA. HBA develops, delivers, and sustains air traffic management, CNS/ATM avionics expertise, and weather sensing/forecast capabilities enabling military, civil, and allied and foreign military sales customers to achieve their mission.

This position will support the Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) Program.  

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

    • Provide technical expertise overseeing and auditing the design, development, integration and test of software used to import, validate, verify and pack navigational databases into a form that can be loaded into Flight Management Systems (FMS).
    • Participate in the auditing of contractors and government agencies that are involved in the production of data meeting the requirements for a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type 1 Letter of Acceptance and FAA Type 2 Letter of Acceptance.
    • Review, analyze, and assess contractor implementations of systems and associated software services, derived requirements specifications, design documents, interface control documents, source code, and design implementation.
    • Participate in Standards development forums for database processing.
    • Provide specific knowledge and expertise on the Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) format and the ARINC 424 navigational database format.
    • Be involved in the development of verification tools for navigational databases.
    • Develop recommendations for the Government regarding how well designs satisfy current requirements and business goals.
    • Actively participate in team meetings to develop plans and contingencies for system implementation.

    Required Skills:

    Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

    A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field.

    An adjudicated DoD Secret Security clearance on the First Day of employment.

    A highly technical background, implementing or auditing compliance to RTCA DO-200B and FAA AC20-153B.

    Possess a strong understanding of how aeronautical data translates into the flight paths of aircraft.

    The ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms on highly technical topics is critical.

    Ability to travel; anticipate ~8 trips per year (~ 80% domestic and 20% international).

    Preferred Skills:

    Knowledge and experience to actively participate in international standards bodies that develop and revise standards for aeronautical database.

    Experience working with aeronautical navigational databases highly.

    Experience in software architecture design.

    Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

    Proactive and responsive team member.

    Experience in reviewing and writing technical documentation and reports.

    Experience with version control and bug tracking (GIT, SVN, etc.) and agile development.

    XML experience.
