Job Description

This position will be providing Instrumentation support to Detachment 1, 413th Flight Test Squadron, located at Nellis AFB, NV.  Works as a member of an integrated product team to develop and test new and existing capabilities for the US Air Force Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) Combined Test Force (CTF). This position requires an individual with motivation and initiative to support developmental flight testing in a dynamic high tempo environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Design and fabricate instrumentation packages to collect data from aircraft and test systems.

Develop instrumentation drawings and checklists to support instrumentation systems.

Install and configure data recorders and sensors (cameras, thermocouples, accelerometers, strain gauges, etc.) to collect analog, digital bus data, video/audio channels, and discrete signals during test events.

Design, fabricate and assemble specialized test modules and equipment as required to instrument a wide range of aircraft systems.

Download and assess accuracy of data collected from instrumented systems and assist test engineers in preparing test reports.

Assist in the design of new instrumentation equipment or modifications to existing systems to meet test objectives.

Prepare instrumentation modification packages for airworthiness certifications.

Coordinate with test engineers, data analysts, and aircrews in conducting of test missions.

Coordinate with flying units to ensure availability of test resources for instrumentation installation and configuration in support of test activities.

Performs duties onboard test aircraft during modifications and ground operations.

Travel to offsite locations, as required

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Bachelor’s degree in applicable discipline and 3 years of related experience.

This skill level is typically responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions.

Requires knowledge and experience working with aircraft instrumentation systems.

Requires a level of knowledge and skill sufficient to design, fabricate, assemble, troubleshoot and configure data collection systems for military aircraft. 

Familiar with and able to use the following:

-        Basic hand operated tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, ratchets, sockets etc.)

-        Electrically operated shop equipment (drills, band saws, drill press, air compressor, etc.)

-        Hand operated specialized tools (crimpers, dies, wire strippers, etc.)

-        Electrically and hand operated bench tools (digital multi-meter, heat gun, soldering station, etc.)

Proficient with the fabrication and building of electrical connectors, cannon plugs, wiring harnesses and cables.

Proficient with the types, selection, and use of aircraft hardware and fasteners.

Experience working with digital data busses and avionics systems.

Experience fabricating test modules and components is required.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics.

Requires good workmanship and housekeeping practices when working in and around aircraft and fabrication areas.

Proficient with working in a flight line environment; familiar with safety practices when working in and around running aircraft and when working in a fabrication environment. 

Must have a demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated test team and be able to effectively communicate and possess technical writing skills.

Desired Skills:

Expertise is desired in testing of HH-60G/W CSAR aircraft.

Expertise is desired in using US Air Force Technical Orders to include but not limited to HH-60G/W Maintenance series Technical Orders.

Familiar with the US Air Force Supply System including but not limited to the use of Fed Log, Web Flis, and Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS).
