Human Performance Department Manager
DCS Air and Space Technology Sector is seeking a Department Manager for our Human Performance team. In this role, you will lead an organization which is actively engaged in a broad range of research, development and test initiatives focused in the areas of human optimization and aerospace physiology. We conduct innovative research to further our customer’s mission to ‘sense’, ‘assess’ and ‘augment’ the performance of Airmen to maximize human effectiveness. You will lead a portfolio of projects and contracts that include cognitive neuroscience, performance optimization, biodynamics, oxygen systems and more.
You will be part of a dynamic work environment within which you will be responsible for a high technology team of human factors psychologists, neuroscientists, biomedical engineers, data analysts and other subject matter experts who have established a strong customer base and have at their disposal world-class research facilities. You and your team will apply innovative biotechnology techniques to advance the state-of-the-art of human performance and protection. This is an exciting opportunity with significant visibility and strong potential for upward mobility. You will lead and work to expand our business portfolio in this area performing world class research, development and analysis for the Department of Defense and National Security market.
Essential Job Functions:
In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and development for your staff, overseeing successful contract execution, maintaining and growing excellent customer relationships, successful contract execution, recognizing and capitalizing on market opportunities, understanding competitive positioning, and controlling business costs.
As Department Manager you will be required to:
Foster a progressive, productive, collaborative, and technically exciting work environment.
Establish and maintain excellent customer relationships.
Engage in ongoing business development activities including opportunity identification, development and proposal preparation.
Conduct mentoring, supervision, and periodic evaluation of a multi-disciplinary team.
Coordinate recruitment of technical staff and manage staffing plans.
Meet revenue targets through contract execution and leading winning proposals.
Conduct periodic reporting activities to articulate branch status to senior management.
Contribute to Department, Division and Sector level strategic plans.
Perform Project/Program Management activities and status reporting activities to customers.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
BS degree in Engineering, Science, or a relevant technical discipline and at least 15 years of experience in a technical role related to applied neuroscience programs with at least 3 years of experience managing technical personnel.
Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information: at least a Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance.
Current expertise in the research and development of human research studies in the areas of aerospace physiology and/or applied neuroscience.
Demonstrated ability to grow current contracts, lead business captures and write proposals.
Strong written and oral English communication skills.
Ability to travel, as needed.
Ability to work some evenings/overnight hours as required for certain research efforts.
Demonstrated experience in project, contract and personnel management.
Desired Skills:
Advanced degree in a relevant academic field (PhD preferred).
Program management experience with government contracts.
Ability to formulate and execute strategies to grow new business.
