Job Description

The Technical Trainer supports USCG system technical training requirements for operators and maintenance personnel by providing classroom instruction at Government and contractor training sites.

Essential Job Functions:

Provides instruction of C3CEN developed and approved course curricula and course materials at C3CEN and at or near various Coast Guard cutters and other afloat and ashore units.

Advises the C3CEN Training Branch Chief, the Training Program Manager, and the Course Development Chief on matters related to training requirements, progress, problems, and improvement of the systems assigned.

Attends and actively participates in working groups and Training Branch meetings as subject matter expert on the systems assigned to teach.

Assists C3CEN and other Coast Guard course analysts and developers with their insight and recommendations for course updates, improvements, new curricula development.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

A High School Diploma plus 16 years of experience, an Associates Degree plus 10 years of experience, a Bachelors Degree plus 8 years of experience or a Masters Degree plus 6 years of experience is required.

An active SECRET clearance is required.

Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience and possess proficiency in U.S. Coast Guard RADAR operating principles.

Must be an experienced technical instructor with a minimum of two years’ experience teaching at the adult education level – above the high-school level, i.e., experienced military trained trainer, trade school instructor, college instructor) and possess a thorough knowledge of instructional techniques with strong communications skills.

Requires a minimum of three [3] years’ experience and proficiency in one or more of the following systems: Seawatch, Vega Electronic Charting System (Vega-ECS), Vega Electronic Chart Display Integrated System (Vega ECDIS) system, or Coast Guard - Electronic Chart Display Integrated System (CG- ECDIS).

Requires experience and proficiency in U.S. Coast Guard navigation and piloting principles.

Must be proficient in both Sun Solaris and Windows Operating Systems and possess a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
