Job Description

Journeyman, Database Software Engineer/Developer supporting the AFLCMC/EBS, Advanced Programs Division

Essential Job Functions:

Serve as the primary source for the execution and sustainment of complex database software modules related to the procurement and storage of modeling and simulation(s), test/evaluation, and weapon production data. In particular, serve as the primary focal point for compiling, integration, and execution of the database software responsible for representing weapon systems evaluation data to support future USAF acquisition projects.  Provide recommendations to decision makers on the capabilities of new or existing database systems to meet USAF needs.

Develop database software scripts to perform a variety of experimental studies, resolve code errors, and implement various software updates with various system hardware as needed to complete tasks for a variety of database efforts. Requires the ability to learn various and/or new computer languages and the ability to compile source code across a variety of operating systems and hardware, as needed, based on the various projects within the center.

Provide support to other IPTs within the center to ensure overall database requirements are being met. Consult with other Subject Matter Experts (SME) on the capabilities and limitation with respect to the use of the database system to include hardware, software, and security.

Independently identify cost, schedule, and performance risk in conjunction with database management as it relates to the execution and sustainment of new or existing database systems. Provide insight to key decision makers of the overall utilization of given database software packages to determine performance.

Perform various administrative, financial and clerical duties as needed to support the modeling and simulation IPT such as scheduling meeting, coordinating special projects, submitting reports, creating procedures and/or manuals for essential functions to operate various database requirements.

Required Skills:

Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

A Bachelors Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering with a software focus plus 2 years of experience or a Masters Degree plus 1 year of experience is required.

An active Secret clearance is required.

Big Data Analytics experience in a test and simulation environment.

Experience using Apache Hadoop.

Database Skills: Knowledgeable with Oracle EBS development using the Oracle developer tools (or comparable database systems). 

Proficient experience developing database objects to include stored procedures, functions, triggers, and built-in packages.

Familiarity with highly scalable transaction processing environment. 

Writing SQL optimized for performance.

Experienced in full software development life cycle including requirements definition, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and maintenance.

Abundant understanding of software and database development lifecycles.

Experienced in writing clear technical design specifications with strong technical documentation ability.

Experience with multiple Operating Systems (Linux, Windows).

Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, LaTex, Python, C/C++, Matlab, Java, and Tecplot preferred.

Ability to compile in various programming languages. 

Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to work independently.

Additional Information:

Travel required.

Ability to rent/operate rental cars while on travel.

Ability to work flexible and varied hours.
